Student Anti-Ragging Affidavit
The Supreme court of India and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has observed that students seeking admission in college are required to compulsorily sign an anti-ragging affidavit.
An anti-ragging affidavit is one which contains a statement on behalf of the student pertaining to non-indulgence in the act of teasing, harassing, treating with the objective to insult, shame or cause psychological harm to the fresher or any other student.
Supreme Court ‘s stance on Anti Ragging
After the apex court’s judgement in 2006 it has now become mandatory for every technical institution, university either government, government aided or private to get an anti-ragging affidavit filled by the student and issue regulatory measures of Anti-Ragging.
Regulations by Universities and technical Institutions to prevent ragging
The Court has come out strongly against ragging and has ordered universities and Institutions imparting technical knowledge to issue an information booklet regarding ragging at the time of admissions. The information booklet must mention the criminal consequences of ragging against the offenders.
The Educational Institutions are also required to attach a printed anti-ragging affidavit with the prospectus which the students are required to fill compulsorily.
AICTE keeps a record of all the affidavits in the digital form. The universities both government and private are also required to publicize the ills of ragging throughout the campus or through media.
Anti-Ragging Affidavit- a must for every student starting college. Why?
There is also an Anti-ragging committee which is headed by the intuition and consists of representatives from police and civil administration. Both the university and the committee are required to sensitize the issue of ragging. The consequences of defaulting could be rustication of students, cancellation of admission or legal proceedings in the event of highly sensitive circumstances.
Anti-Ragging has become a highly volatile issue over the years and the need has risen for willful consent by the students and parents to refrain from ragging. It is a document which is absolutely mandatory for every Indian student preparing to start college.
